History Of The Pocket Knife part 2

Made in the United States

While there are a lot of respectable international companies that make high quality pocket knives, there is something to be said about the craftsmanship and sand of American knife makers. Here in the United States, we have a long history as a pioneer, both in regard to physical exploration and through the development of manufacturing and labor. And we would not be doing our job properly if we did not mention some of the people who helped build that reputation, as well as those who keep it alive.
Camilo: Formed in 1876, Camilo is one of the oldest manufacturers of American knives. While their focus was / is not strictly on the creation of pocket knives, they have made some notable entries. That is, they make a folding knife / phantom for the Red Cross during the First World War. In 1947, a complete line of folding official knives was created for the Boy Scouts of America. They also make a 4-blade knife for the United States Armed Forces during the Vietnam War. Unfortunately, he filed for bankruptcy in 2007 as a result of his inability to compete with competition abroad. Now they are owned and operated by Acme United Corporation and, as far as we can tell, they no longer manufacture American-made folding knives.
Buck Knives: Although the first knife was made in 1902, it was not until 1961 when Buck Knives became a joint-stock company. In 1963, Al Buck - son of the late Hoyt Buck - created his folding pocket knife model 110 Hunter. It is still one of the most popular models offered today. Buck Knives had gone through a period where much of their business comes from abroad, but since they have been trying to find ways to move production back to the US. Today, around 80% are manufactured of the knives from their Idaho facility. They also offer a limited warranty "forever" on all their products.

Benchmade: The creators of the widely praised line of Griptilian knives, benchmade is one of the newest pocket knife makers that have appeared on the scene, but they have undoubtedly gained a tremendous amount of respect from the knife community. With roots dating back to 1979, Benchmade was incorporated in 1990 - in California. Today, more than 90% of the knives are manufactured from their factory in Oregon City.

Gerber: founded in 1910 as an advertising company, which began manufacturing its line of Gerber Legendary knives in 1936 after Jose was mailed 24 sets of kitchen knives to customers, receiving a tremendously positive response. since many prestigious American knife designers have worked with the company and many of their models are still manufactured here in the USA.
Spyderco: The name by the spider appearance of the first invention of the founder Sal Glesser, the portable hand, Spyderco has been producing folding knives since 1981. Based in Golden, Colorado - a fact stated not so subtly in all its knives - these people have been at the forefront of some very important knife technologies, such as the use of powder metallurgy in the production of their knives, and their unique design that stands out in the world pocket knife.

CRKT: Standing during CRKT, CRKT has been making high quality American knives since 1994. Like Spyderco, they have embraced the forward-thinking side of the knife making and the owner of the rights to several patented technologies. They also emphasize both excellence and affordability, the belief that everyone should have the opportunity to bring high-quality knives with them.
W. R. Case & Sons Co Covered: more commonly known as the box, this brand dates back to 1889, when the brothers case began selling the cutlery from the back of a pickup truck in western New York. From World War I, the brand was responsible for the manufacture of military knives - which includes both the fighting knife M3 and the V-42 stylet. Today, they are owned by Zippo, although all their knives are still made in the USA. with steel of national origin and natural materials such as buffalo horns, precious stones and ancient mammoth ivory.

Modernity

Since the 1800s, knives have experienced exponential growth in style and technology. From culturally distinct design developments - such as the Japanese Higonokami, the French Douk-Douk, or the Italian Stilleto - to widely used mechanical advances - such as the wide variety of different locking systems or the creation of new steel alloys more Strong - knives have evolved far beyond their original conception, while retaining the essence of their usefulness.
Now there are hundreds of different styles and materials, from different blade steel dozens, and countless knife makers and designers from around the world. And our planet has become a much smaller place in the age of the Internet and the era of globalization. Whether you're looking for a simple camping knife or the most extreme US-made tactical folder ever, you can find it somewhere. Or you can have it on request, if you are not one to savor in pursuit.
